Baked Avocado Fries with Chipotle Ranch Dipping Sauce
This weekend was the hottest weekend we have experienced as Arizona residents. It was 118 degrees F. And let me tell I you, it was basically the worst thing ever. On Saturday, my husband and I went out to run to some stores to look for new sheets and to go to the grocery store. Just walking to and from our car into each store was enough to complete drain us of all energy. We have been taking water bottles with us to try to stay hydrated, but it’s not enough. We got home and we both felt so crappy and I had to take a nap. And now all of my herb plants are dead. I hate it!
Ok, I’ll stop my whining. I promise.
These fries…oh these fries. You guys know how in love I am with avocados. I am always looking for new ways to enjoy those green beauties! These baked avocado fries are great to serve alongside a burger, but they also make a great appetizer. To make them, you will just slice up some avocados and dip them in crunch panko bread crumbs and seasonings to bake until crispy on the outside!
I mixed up some chipotle ranch dipping sauce to serve alongside them.
Baked Avocado Fries with Chipotle Ranch Dipping Sauce
These Crispy Baked Avocado Fries are a new fun way to enjoy avocados! Served with chipotle ranch dipping sauce!
Ingredients
- 2 ripe avocados, pit removed and cut into slices
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3/4 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
- cooking spray
For the chipotle ranch dipping sauce:
- 1/2 cup ranch dresssing
- 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
- juice from 1/2 of a lime
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place an oven-safe wire baking rack on top of a baking sheet. Spray with cooking spray and set aside.
- Get three shallow bowls. Put the flour in the one bowl. Whisk together the eggs in the second bowl. In the third bowl, mix together the panko bread crumbs, salt, garlic powder, and the red pepper flakes. Take one of the slices and dredge into the flour, then into the egg, and then into the panko mixture until each slice is well-coated. Place the finished slices onto the wire rack. Spray with more cooking spray. Bake for about 10 minutes. Flip the each avocado slice over and bake for another 5 minutes or until golden. (You can sprinkle extra salt on top if necessary)
- While the fries are baking, prepare the dipping sauce. Pour the ranch dressing, pepper, and the lime juice into the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until the everything is well-combined and the pepper has been broken down.
- Serve the avocado fries with the chipotle ranch dipping sauce and/or other sauces of your choice.

I am sorry to hear about your herb plants and the heat my friend! Sending our winter breezes your way1
Lovely avocado on the plus side, never would have thought to make fries :D
Cheers
CCU
Yes, please send all of the winter breeze you can, lol!
118!!!! Stephanie, I don’t know how you do it! I better stop complaining about the 90 degree weather here. Because that must feel like a dream to you! Lovin’ these avocado fries. I’ve never tried making anything like it before. And now I have to!
I almost didn’t make it through the day, lol! The reports say we might have some rain this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed!
What a delicious looking recipe and with a yummy dressing as well. I have never seen anything like it before, definitely worth a try :)
Thank you! It’s quite tasty! :)
I have never seen anything like this…. what a clever way to serve avocado. :) Talk about being able to indulge on some fries. :)
I am so sorry to hear about the heat in your area… it sounds absolutely miserable. I have been to Phoenix once in August when it was 109 outside and I walked out of the air conditioned airport to feel like I walked into an oven. Please stay safe and I hope and pray the temps drop down at least 30 degrees for you guys soon.
Thanks, Ramona. Walking into an oven is the perfect way to describe it!
Oh Girl, the heat is killer this week! We have been in the low 100’s, not as hot as you, but anything above 100 is hot!! I know my energy is drained and I don’t feel like doing anything! I give you credit for turning the oven on, my Husband won’t let me. Our house, even with the AC on is hot!
I have seen quite a few recipes floating around for baked avocados. I am quite intrigued and I think I must give this a try! Yours looks delish and I LOVE the chipotle ranch dressing! Yum!!!
It’s so terrible, isn’t it? People keep saying, “oh, well, it’s better than humidity!” and it’s like, Um, no, when it’s 118 degrees, it’s unbearable!
I have been wanting to make these fries forever!
You should totally make them! :)
I seriously need to try this. Like NOW. Or YESTERDAY!!!
Ha! I think I need them everyday!
That heat sounds miserable. Heat like that always causes a headache and makes me feel sleepy. I LOVE avocados and have never thought to turn them into fries. Oh, I will be trying this.
Excessive heat is the worst, isn’t it! I had to take a nap.
Whaaaaat??! i love these. and minus the dip, I love that I can serve them to my meat friends and my vegan friends and all is well. LOVE!
Thanks, Jackie! I think these could be served with a number of dips!
WHAT. <– That said both in reaction to that freakishly awful temp and these amazing avocado fries! Stay cool and don't melt, Stephanie! I'm definitely not feeling so whiny anymore about the high 90's we're having here in Austin!
Ha, I wish it were in the 90s! It is starting to cool down a little bit now though.
Oh my, I am sooo excited to make these!!! I LOVE avocados!
Thank you, Kristi! I hope you enjoy them! :)
Love the idea of avocado fries! They sound amazing!
Thanks, Jessica! They are pretty tasty!
So, my boyfriend used to hate avocado. Now that he’s reformed and loves it, these would be his DREAM. Thanks for the awesome idea! And gorgeous photography!
I’m glad he’s a changed man! :)
These look absolutely amazing. I’m thinking it’s best to do this when they are nice and firm…and haven’t been sitting on the counter too long…as mine has been!
That is actually a great tip, Marjory. I agree, I wouldn’t use overly ripe avocados for this.
Wow. THAT HEAT! There’s no way I could feel that right now. That’s crazy heat. Thanks for coming by my blog :) It’s nice to get back in the swing of things after being away so long! These look so good and my hungry pregnant self could eat them all up! xo
Thanks, Emily. It is pretty crazy! Glad you are back!
Ugh, I’ve been hearing about your weather…my friend in Tuscon said it was a bit cooler today, but their power went out last night :/ As much as I love avocados, I know I’d be head over heels for your fries!
First I read “baked avocado fries” and thought that sounded fabulous, and then I finished reading the part about how you dip ’em in chipotle ranch dipping sauce. I NEED to try these!
Oh man, I was totally thinking of you when I heard about the crazy temperatures over there – it’s been stupid hot here too, and I can’t help but whine about how unmotivated I am when I’m this sticky. Blech. On the bright side, these are brilliant, I’ve never seen anything like them!
I was just reading about the awful Arizona heat. These avocado fries look really amazing Stephanie! I love the dipping sauce.
This is amazing! I love it:)
I guess you don’t want to hear about the muggy 90’s weather here in New York, huh? :) I’ve had baked avocado fries pinned forever but haven’t made them yet. I’m concerned about the texture but the whole idea is too good to resist. Your photos are so tempting that maybe I need to move that recipe up in my rotation. :)
In.Love. And the lighting is soooo pretty in these photos!

Ack! I don’t know what happened mine came out nice and golden but the avocado was bitter! I read online that it happens when it’s exposed to heat. How did you avoid this?
