Raise your hand if you’ve tried the Pretzel Club sandwich from that one really popular chicken restaurant…(you know…Chick-Fil-A)? I’m not gonna lie, I don’t eat a lot of fast food, but this chicken sandwich is delicious and I will admit it, I even like the creamy dijon spread. Yes, me, the girl who hates mustard. All the flavors just work so well with the pretzel bun. In an effort to save some money and knowing it’s not a permanent addition to their menu, figuring out how to make them at home seemed like a good idea.

Making your own chicken pretzel club sandwich is honestly very easy. I know they sell it with their breaded chicken as well, but I’m partial to their grilled chicken so that’s what we are going with here. You can obviously make your own pretzel buns if you want, but go ahead and buy them premade to save time. To make the creamy dijon, I just took a look at the back of the packet to see what the ingredients were and I felt it was close enough!

Recipe Tips and Suggestions:

  • If you prefer, you can bread the chicken. There are copycat breaded chicken recipes out there if you want to do that.
  • The creamy dijon sauce at Chick-Fil-A is pretty sweet compared to just plain dijon. The ingredients list both sugar and honey so I used both here. You can certainly leave out the sugar and adjust the honey if you’d prefer for it to not be sweet.
  • I pounded my chicken down so it was more thin than their chicken breasts because I just don’t like biting into a huge thick piece of chicken, but you can prepare it however you prefer.

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices cooked bacon
  • 4 slices tomato
  • romaine lettuce
  • 4 pretzel buns/rolls

For the Creamy Dijon:

  • 1/3 cup dijon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 3 teaspoons honey (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Add the prepared chicken breasts to a pie dish. In a small bowl, add the olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, and the lemon juice. Stir together and brush over each piece of chicken on both sides.
  2. Heat grill or grill pan to medium high heat. Cook the chicken for about 4-5 minutes and flip over. Continue grilling until chicken reaches an internal temp of 165 degrees F. Add a slice of cheese on top of each piece, let melt, and remove from heat.
  3. While the chicken is grilling, prepare the creamy dijon sauce. In another small bowl, add the dijon, mayo, garlic and onion powders, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and the honey. Whisk to combine. Set aside.
  4. Once the chicken is done, assemble the sandwiches. Slice the pretzel buns in half (can toast if desired). Place a piece of chicken, bacon, tomato, and lettuce on each bun. Spread some of the creamy dijon on each sandwich and enjoy!
