Copycat Starbucks Medicine Ball Tea
January has never been very kind to my family. Despite all getting our flu shots and not traveling this year, we still managed to spend most of the month being sick it seems. I blame preschool germs! I’ve been battling a gnarly cold myself for two weeks now!
A couple of weeks ago, I finally decided to try the popular “Medicine Ball” tea from Starbucks. On their menu, it is also known as Honey Citrus Mint Tea. I really enjoyed it and after visiting 3 times in one week, I knew I needed to just figure out how to make it at home because those trips add up!
The drink is really very easy to make at home. The key to making it taste the same as the Starbucks version is to use the same tea that they use which is Teavana tea. You will need Teavana Peach Tranquility Tea and Teavana Jade Citrus Mint Tea. I found both teas at my local grocery store, but you can also get them online.
Once you’ve got the tea, all you need is some lemonade, water, and honey! I believe that Starbucks does half-lemonade half-water in their drink, but the great thing about making it at home is that you can adjust everything however you want! I actually like to do a little less lemonade and more water as I don’t like super sweet drinks.
To make the tea, you just heat up the water and lemonade, let the teas steep for a few minutes, and stir in some honey! It tastes exactly the same as the Starbucks version, you can make it without leaving home, and your wallet will thank you!

Tried the real medicine ball this week per a friend’s recommendation. This home version is SO yummy. Thanks!
Glad you like it, Kristie!
Are you still able to buy Tervana tea from the grocery stores? I can’t find any in my area.
Target carries the Tevana Teas
I couldn’t find these flavors at my Target. I got them at Harris Teeter.
I ordered through Amazon prime
I found them at my local Walmart today.
Walmart also carries both flavors
Thank you for this. It’s been my go-to drink when I have a cold or don’t feel great.
I’m so glad you like it, Mary!
I do not drink tea or coffee. I tried this tea at Starbucks at the suggestion of a friend.
It was great. Thank you for the recipe. On a side note, I also have never really liked mint, either. But, this combination is very good. Thank you.
No one is commenting on the SUGAR content. It is in the high 50’s at starbucks I believe for just a grande. Is it less for the homemade version?
That’s the great thing about making your own, Vicki! You can control how much honey you use. You can also use sugar-free lemonade. The taste will obviously be a bit different, but it’s still a better alternative.

This tastes identical to the Starbucks Medicine Ball tea! I usually get mine with peppermint, so I added 3 drops of peppermint essential oil to this recipe. It was just as I ordered from Starbucks. Thank you so much for this! You’ve saved me time and money!
I’ve tried this and it was ok. I accidentally forgot to drink it one day and set it in the fridge for later. I tried it cold……and oh my goodness!! I love it chilled! I chugged it, it was that good! I make mine iced now for summer. Delicious!!
One YouTube video to make the Korean version of a cold fighting tea said to use UNCOOKED honey. Apparently honey that’s been cooked changes its molecular structure and you don’t really get the full benefits of honey. Also having your water too hot destroys the molecular chains of honey and you defeat the purpose of honey’s medicinal benefits. I found an unfiltered, uncooked honey at Wal Mart called Miller’s Raw Clover Honey. As a former USDA Processed Fruit and Vegetable Inspector, I had to grade various honeys and this one has a light amber color and good flavor—both good points. The current bottle I have is more than a month old and there are NO crystals present. I haven’t really done the research on this particular point but I think that’s why honey starts to crystallize because it was cooked. I hope that this post helps others to get the most out of their Medicine Ball tea.
My son works for Starbucks and he steamed the lemonade with our espresso maker! I made homemade lemonade and it was perfect!! I agree use the right tea!!
As a traditional Chinese medicine, the “Medicine Ball” is the newest trend among many young Chinese who want to lose weight.
