Sugar Plum Fairy Punch in a glass with a nutcracker and ornaments behind it

There are lots of things to love about the Christmas season, but my most favorite of them all? The Nutcracker. When I was little, my mom used to volunteer at our local ballet company and getting dressed up to go see the Nutcracker became such a special tradition for us. The music, the costumes, the sets, it was all just magical. I’m excited that my girls are now old enough to enjoy it as well and that my mom and I got to take them this year.

And now as an adult, I can enjoy The Nutcracker in the form of a cocktail – a sugar plum cocktail. This Sugar Plum Fairy Punch is perfectly sweet and festive for the season!

I managed to find plum liqueur which is obviously perfect for this cocktail. This is not a sponsored post. I didn’t know such a liqueur existed, but when I got the idea for this drink, I was pleased to find it! The purple color was the perfect base for this drink for creating the purple tone of the sugar plum color. Depending on where you live, it may be difficult to find as it is not carried in a lot of stores. Below in the recipe tips, I provided some alternate suggestions!

Mixed with the plum liqueur, I also added vodka, a splash of grenadine, pomegranate juice, and topped it with some ginger ale. This drink is sweet and fruity and is perfect for serving in a punch bowl for your holiday parties! Garnish with some sugared cranberries, pomegranate seeds, or sliced plums, and it’s the most lovely drink!

Recipe Tips and Suggestions:

  • You can find the plum liqueur I used at Total Wine, which are located all over the country. Your local stores may carry other brands of something similar, but this one is what I used.
  • If you cannot locate the plum liqueur, you can swap it for something else. Some blue curacao would also help create the purple tone of the sugar plum hue when mixed with the red liquids, for example. Any liqueur that has wintry fruity flavors would work nicely – cherry, raspberry, orange, pomegranate, etc.
  • You may also be able to find plum simple syrups that you can swap in place of the grenadine.
  • Garnish the drink with cranberries (or sugared cranberries), sliced plums, raspberries, and/or pomegranate seeds.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled, etc. to serve a large gathering.
  • This recipe makes enough for 6 cocktails with about 2 ounces of alcohol per serving. Of course, you can adjust this however you want, adding more or less of the vodka and liqueur.
  • You can also adjust the grenadine, pomegranate juice, and the ginger ale (or ginger beer) based on your desired level of sweetness and “booziness”.
