Strawberry Mango Iced Green Tea

Is it just me or is flying becoming more and more of a pain in the butt? What should have been a simple 4-hour direct flight back to Phoenix yesterday turned into a 9-hour debacle. First there were thunderstorms that caused a one-hour delay. Then as soon as they told us they were getting ready to board us, they came back and told us there was an issue with the weather radar on the plane. An hour later they finally let us know that the part they needed had to be flown in and we wouldn’t be able to leave for another 4 hours or so. Needless to say, it was a long night, but I eventually made it home safe and sound. And hey, at the very least, they gave us free wine on the plane!

Strawberry Mango Iced Green Tea

I feel like I have been posting a lot drink recipes lately, but here is an alcohol-free recipe for you guys. I have posted a number of lemonade recipes, but truth be told, I’m more of an iced tea gal myself. I don’t really drink soda, so my drink of choice is usually water or iced tea. Green tea is one of my favorites because of its health benefits. This strawberry mango iced green tea has the perfect amount of fruity flavor without being overly sweet.

Strawberry Mango Iced Green Tea - Homemade iced tea made with strawberry mango syrup made with fresh fruit!

Ingredients

For the strawberry mango syrup:

  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup diced mango
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup water

For the iced tea:

  • 2 quarts water
  • 6 bags of green tea (or regular black tea if desired)
  • 1 cup strawberry syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 cup strawberry mango syrup (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, stir together the water and sugar and heat over medium high heat. Add in the strawberries and mango. Bring the mixture to a light boil and let simmer for about 8 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat. Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the fruit down as much as possible. Pour the mixture through a sieve into a bowl. Discard the solids and let cool completely.
  2. In another pan, bring the water to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and add in the tea bags. Let steep for about 5 minutes. Remove the bags and pour the tea into a pitcher. Stir in the cooled syrup. You can stir in additional sliced strawberries for garnish if desired. Pour over ice or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Note that the mango may not break down as much as the strawberries, that is okay, you will still taste the mango in the syrup.
