Croque-Monsieur

Have you guys been watching the Olympics? I’ve been totally sucked in. I usually just watch some of the figure skating, but this year we have been watching it all. Curling- what’s up with all the noises and yelling? Biathlon – Shooting and skiing, how does one get into that?! I have also been loving all of the snowboarding stuff. All of the tricks are crazy and I can’t stop thinking that if I ever tried that, I would throw up and then I would fall down all the live long day.

All the Olympics watching has made me want quick dinners so I don’t miss anything and they also having me thinking it’s cold out and we need lots of grilled cheese sandwiches and soup. Instead of making regular grilled cheese, I opted for the French version, a Croque-Monsieur!

I didn’t have my first Croque-Monsieur until about a year ago at a little cafe and I couldn’t believe what I was missing out on all this time! A Croque-Monsieur is made with ham, Gruyere cheese, mustard (which I had to leave off because I just can’t do mustard), and it’s topped with a gorgeous Béchamel sauce and is then broiled in the oven until perfectly bubbly and gooey. Gah, I’m drooling just thinking about it right now!
