Blueberry Pomegranate Sangria
Oh sangria, it’s been so long since I last posted a sangria recipe and that’s just wrong! And you know what else is wrong? The fact that every sangria recipe I have posted has used white wine. What’s up with me not giving red wine some love too?! In my defense, while I do love red wine, I typically prefer white wine sangria because they tend to be more refreshing to me which is something I am usually looking for in a sangria.
And you know what is weird (I promise this is the last question I will ask you…)? Making a batch of this on a Sunday morning so you can photograph it and then feeling obligated to drink all of it throughout the day so you don’t waste perfectly good wine and then realize you no longer have the tolerance you had when you were 21 years old…
This blueberry pomegranate version uses red wine, but it’s still really refreshing and not overly sweet (another feature that I think is key to a good sangria recipe!)! I haven’t really been buying blueberries this winter because they haven’t been in season and have been really expensive at the store, but I noticed big containers on sale this week so I had to get some! I like this sangria because although it has blueberries (which are best in the spring and summer), it also has pomegranate which I usually associate with the winter. This is a sangria you can really make all year around! If fresh blueberries aren’t looking good or are still overpriced near you, can you also opt to use frozen.
Blueberry Pomegranate Sangria - delicious and fruity sangria made with red wine, blueberry vodka, and pomegranate juice! Great for parties! To prepare simple syrup, combine equal parts water and sugar in a pan over medium heat. Heat until the sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Remove and let cool. Stir in as much or as little as you like depending on desired sweetness.
